I’ve mentioned before that I have started the C25k program. My first attempt was in January and I was trying to run outside but I was too paranoid. Then I started up again in March after we purchased our treadmill. That went well until we had family come into town to visit (I didn’t want to run with an audience) and we also thought I was pregnant (I had a false positive on a pregnancy test, it through us for an emotional loop), so I made it through the first week then stopped the program. I kept walking & running but was feeling like crap as I did and afterwards.
So I took a little break.

Before starting up again I bought an armband for my iPhone and some of those earbuds with the “hooks” that go around your ear so I could get completely lost in my music and wouldn’t have to hold my phone. Those two little changes make a world of difference. Now I can completely tune out the outside world and not having to hold my phone makes it easier to run too. I have the C25k app and it tells me when to run and when to walk. Not having to watch the time makes the intervals go by faster and makes it easier to get into my running zone. Tonight I completed my farthest distance, it was only two miles, but I am a complete beginner. I have never run before this. When we had to run in high school I would just walk – P.E. was not one of my better subjects (unless we were playing softball/baseball or volleyball…I kind of kicked ass at those).
I firmly believe that slow and steady wins the race. I will slowly increase my speed, which will slowly increase the distance I run and overall I will slowly reach my goal. I’m giving myself one year to lose about 30 pounds. If I get there sooner, then great, but I am not going to obsess over it.

My ultimate goal with running (and eating better) is to lose weight for my health. Diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol all run in my family and taunt me. They saw the direction I was headed in, but I also saw where I was headed and I never want to meet those three foes.

Congratulations! I want this APP, but I bet it isn’t on droid yet….I may have to cave and get an IPHONE. I am training for a 5km race in a couple of weeks. I can run 5km , but slowly – would quite like to go further though. I hate running! It is free, good for you and an excellent challenge.
Know you’re not going through it alone.
Rosie xx
It is a droid app, but it’s not free. DEFINATELY WORTH THE MONEY THOUGH. Look up Ease into 5k, it should come up. It’s got a picture of a little runner against a green background.
I am so proud of you. That is awesome. I wanted to start doing tht. But I’m inherently lazy.
Don’t those look delicious…..must try. Im your newest follower. Please come visit me at PICKINandPAINT.blogspot.com and maybe you’ll decide to follow me too. THANKS.
I’m so proud of you chica!! C25K – I swear by it! You should start linking up with me and my Waist Watcher Wednesdays =)
Keep it up! I can’t even walk a mile without getting out of breath. It drives me insane that we do so good and then one thing happens (I have company over as well) and we fall of the wagon when really we should be asking them to join us!
Great work! Just did my first 5k in a long time today. You can do it!
