Irelyn started kindergarten on Monday. I want to say something like, “Where did the time go??” but the truth is Irelyn has been ready for school since she was four. Unfortunately, we could not afford preschool (not even at the local parks & rec center) and we just missed qualifying for the Pre-K program in our district. So David and I have done what we can with her for the last five years and ten months. That’s right, she is almost six. Irelyn is an October baby and missed the September 2nd cut-off so she could not start school last year.
I was worried about her starting school. We don’t get out much and she can be shy. I was expecting tears and for her not to talk to her teacher. Maybe even not listen out of shyness. I got the complete opposite. Sure, she was nervous the first day but there was no crying (from her – I am another story) when we left her in her class. She cried when I picked her up because she wasn’t ready to leave.
Since then, no tears.
Irelyn talks to her teacher and is well-behaved.
Her teacher, Mrs. S, said of Irelyn, “Irelyn is so fantastic. I just love her.”
Irelyn is still shy around the other kids, but she has been hanging out with two little girls in her class throughout the day.
I couldn’t be more proud of her. Sure, she gets home and kind of runs amuck with Chloe and Grayson, but I let them be because she has been away a whole day and wants to get in some play time with her siblings.
My “pretty, pretty” loves school and I could not ask for more.
